Pectoral Implants
A strong, muscular chest is one of the hallmarks of the ideal male physique. But for many body types the chest remains under-developed even with exercise and weight lifting.
Who is a candidate for Pectoral Implants?
A good candidate for pectoral implants is a man in good health looking to add bulk and/or definition to the chest.Men are ideal candidates for pectoral implants if any of the following apply to them:
- Unhappy with their pecs lacking definition or contour
- No significant chest muscle growth from workout
- Asymmetrical pecs
- Hollow chest due to a chest liposuction procedure
- Sustained a traumatic injury resulting in pectoralis muscle atrophy
- Has any of the following conditions: Poland syndrome, pectus carinatum, or pectus excavatum
Candidates must have realistic expectations and no post-procedure healing problems. Ideal candidates are non-smokers with a stable body weight.
What can I expect during my consultation?
When you come to Sculpt Aesthetic Center, we will start your consultation by listening to your concerns and body goals. We will assess your current chest contours by conducting a physical exam. After checking your medical history, we can determine if you are suitable for pectoral implants.
We will design a personalized procedure plan based on your goals and our evaluation. The plan will cover the type of pec implants (based on your preference), the implant procedure, and recovery process. Any questions you may have will be answered. We will also provide you with instructions on how to prepare for the procedure.
What are my options for Pec Implants?
Pectoral implants come in two varieties: 1) Custom pectoral implants, and 2) Pre-formed pectoral implants. Pre-formed implants come off-the-shelf-in several styles with varying shapes and projections, however more often than not, the general design may not address every issue or meet every goal a man has for his chest. For a natural look and fit there is no substitute for custom pectoral implants. To create these pectoral implants we use a CT scan of your actual chest and rib cage and design implants that are engineered to attractively match your anatomy, body type, proportions and ideal look.
Where are Pectoral Implants Placed?
Pectoral implants are placed under the pectoral muscle, therefore what is seen and felt after male chest augmentation is your own natural muscles. The implants will not restrict movement in any way and any future pec muscle development will only be enhanced by the pectoral implant underneath.
Where is the scar for Pectoral Implants?
In the majority of cases, the implant is placed through a small incision in the armpit. The incision heals well and the scar is well hidden in the crease of the armpit as it heals.
Are Male Pectoral Implants Made the Same Way as Breast Implants?
Male pectoral implants are very different from female breast implants. They are made of solid silicone so, unlike a saline or gel breast implant, they won’t rupture or leak. Nevertheless, they are flexible and relatively soft, allowing for a very natural-looking result.
Do Pectoral Implants Ever need to be Replaced?
Since male pectoral implants are made of solid formed silicone and there is no danger of rupture or silicone leakage, they do not require replacement during your lifetime. Most patients are satisfied with their pectoral implants for around 20 years. You will need to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle if you want to enjoy long-lasting results.
Can Pectoral Implants be Used to Correct Chest Asymmetry?
Yes. We have extensive experience using pectoral implants to correct asymmetry from multiple congenital and acquired conditions. In these specific cases, pectoral implants improve or recreate the contour, thickness, and bulk of chest muscles. Common cases for using pectoral implants to create chest symmetry include after repair of pectus excavatum, and in cases of abnormal or injured pectoral musculature. In all of these cases it will be necessary to use custom formed pectoral implants to complement the existing anatomy.
Can Pectoral Implants be placed if no Pectoral Muscle is present?
In general, some degree of pectoral muscle needs to be present in order to secure and support the pectoral implant, however these highly complex cases will be evaluated on an individual basis to determine if placement of a pectoral implant is possible. If a pectoral implant can be placed, it will be necessary to use a custom formed pectoral implant to complement the existing anatomy.
Does Insurance Cover Pectoral Implant Surgery?
No. Pectoral implants are classified as a cosmetic procedure regardless of the reason for placement.
How much does a pectoral implant procedure cost?
The cost of the pectoral implant procedure is dependent on the procedure plan. The price of the chosen pectoral implants, anesthesia, and other relevant fees can also affect the overall cost of this procedure.
What is the Recovery from a Pectoral Augmentation Surgery?
The procedure is performed under mild general anesthesia and typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours. You can expect to return home the same day after a brief recovery period. You will wear a compression vest underneath your clothes for several weeks to aid recovery and minimize swelling. Typically stretching and non-strenuous light activity can be started within 2 weeks and full activity resumed at 6 weeks.
Can other procedures be done at the same time as pectoral implants?
Pectoral implant surgery can be performed alone, but is often combined with other male chest and body procedures including gynecomastia excision, male liposuction, abdominal etching and male tummy tuck.
SCULPT Men’s Center specializes in male plastic surgery and non-surgical cosmetic procedures for men.
