Tummy Tuck
A tummy tuck, also called an abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure designed to contour the abdominal area. It addresses excess skin, stubborn fat, and sagging muscles to produce a toned abdominal area. At Sculpt Aesthetic Center, Dr. Beck provides tummy tucks for Frisco, TX, patients.
Do I need a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)?
Nowhere on the body is extra skin more noticeable and bothersome than around the waist. Unfortunately, no special diet or exercise routine is going to restore the elasticity of aged or over-stretched skin. If you find yourself constantly wearing waist compression garments, overly baggy clothes, foregoing intimate personal relationships and missing out on life experiences to cope with the embarrassment of having droopy, sagging abdominal skin, a tummy tuck may be exactly what you need.
A tummy tuck is appropriate for healthy patients with realistic expectations. Candidates are at a stable body weight. Patients who are not pregnant or breastfeeding are ideal candidates for tummy tuck surgery.
What Happens During Your Consultation?
During your consultation, Dr. Beck will examine your abdominal area and listen to your aesthetic goals. He will also evaluate your medical records. Dr. Beck will present a surgical plan that can best achieve your aesthetic goals. He will discuss the details of your surgical plan with you.
You will learn all the details of tummy tuck surgery, including preparation, the actual surgery, the recovery process, and the potential results. You can ask questions at any point of your consultation. The procedure will be scheduled based on your convenience.
What Can I Expect from A Tummy Tuck?
A tummy tuck procedure can last from one hour up to several hours depending on the surgical plan. The procedure will start by administering anesthesia. Targeted incisions will be created.
Excess abdominal fat will be removed through liposuction. The excess skin will be trimmed away, and the muscle tissues will be tightened with internal sutures to produce a toned result. The incisions will be closed using sutures. Incisions will be protected using bandages and a protective garment.
A female tummy tuck targets the abdomen, hips and love handles by removing sagging skin, shaping and slimming the waistline. In addition to skin removal, a tummy tuck includes liposuction to the upper abdomen, love handles plus internal tightening of the abdominal muscles in a way that will accentuate (or create) a feminine hourglass shape of the trunk. The result is a slimmer, more fit appearance that’s noticeable both in and out of clothes.
I Was Diagnosed with Diastasis Recti. Do You Repair the Muscles of the Abdomen?
Yes, abdominal muscle repair and abdominal muscle tightening are part of every tummy tuck procedure done at SCULPT. Diastasis (Separation) of the abdominal muscles is very common and can occur in women secondary to one or any combination of: pregnancy, weight gain, age and genetics. Essentially, your “six-pack” abs are really made up of two, 3-packs that sit side by side and are connected down the middle by thin, but strong connective tissue. This connective tissue keeps the abdominal muscles close together, which allows them to act like an internal corset to give you a flat stomach.
Any changes in the body that stretch out or weaken this connective tissue bridge between the stomach muscles can result in increased separation of the two abdominal muscle 3-packs leading to the appearance of a rounded or bulging abdomen. During the tummy tuck procedure, abdominal muscle diastasis is evaluated and repaired to reestablish a tight internal muscle corset and flatten the abdomen.
Where is the Tummy Tuck Scar?
The aim is to place the tummy tuck scar low enough so that it can be covered by a normal cut of underwear or bikini bottom. In most cases, this is below any existing c-section scars or other existing lower abdominal scars. Lengthwise, the incision line will run approximately between the inner hip bones, but may vary slightly based on your hip anatomy.
What is Recovery Like After a Tummy Tuck?
An abdominoplasty surgery is done under mild general anesthesia and takes approximately 3 hours. A tummy tuck is done as an outpatient procedure and you may return home that same day. However, due to the amount of work done, your initial mobility will be slow and somewhat limited. Many patients are candidates for a “drainless tummy tuck”, though drains may be used in select instances to reduce swelling and speed up recovery. Most patients are independently mobile in a few days and can return to work with light duty in about 2 weeks, however will need to refrain from strenuous activities for up to 6 weeks. The tummy tuck procedure will provide immediate and permanent results that will continue to improve throughout recovery. With a trim, firm midsection you’ll soon forget those self-conscious worries and experience life with a big boost in confidence.
Can other procedures be done at the same time as a tummy tuck?
The tummy tuck procedure can be performed alone, but is often combined with other female breast and body procedures including breast augmentation, breast lift, liposuction and BBL.
