Liposuction
Do I need liposuction?
Certain areas of the female body are more prone to fat accumulation and weight gain, particularly the abdomen, bra-line, hips and thighs. Unfortunately, the fat in these areas are also the most resistant to diet and exercise. Despite your level of dedication, it seems the combination of age, genetics, and life responsibilities makes fat loss from these “problem areas” difficult. At some point, the only way to permanently maintain a toned, contoured appearance is to truly eliminate fat from these areas by physically removing the fat cells with liposuction.
How is liposuction done?
Treatment planning begins with an in-depth consultation to evaluate the target areas and your goals. Using your pre-operative photos, each area to be treated is mapped out for a three-step process: 1) breaking down and freeing up the fat cells using VASER liposuction, 2) fat removal with liposuction, and 3) hi-definition liposuction to shape the natural curves and contours of the body. While this process takes a bit longer than traditional liposuction alone, it allows for removal of more fat, gives a smooth contour, and creates subtle definition and curves to provide a distinctly feminine look.
Will I have loose skin after liposuction?
During the consultation we evaluate your skin quality and discuss the degree of skin tightening after liposuction you can expect. However, this is an estimate since the final level of tightening is determined by your body’s natural ability to heal.
Since we use VASER liposuction during your procedure, you will get the added benefit of deep tissue collagen stimulation leading to increased skin contraction and final skin tone. If, after consultation, it is highly likely that you may experience skin laxity after liposuction, we will discuss alternate or additional procedures to fully educate you on what options are available.
Once I have liposuction, can the fat come back?
The good news is that you were born with all the fat cells you were ever going to have. When we gain or lose weight the fat cells expand and shrink accordingly, but the actual number of fat cells does not change. Liposuction removes a large portion of these cells, however, there will still be some small amount of fat left behind to maintain normal body functions. These remaining fat cells will still expand with weight gain, but the smaller number of cells make it extremely unlikely that you will experience weight gain in an area equal to any gains seen prior to liposuction.
After having Liposuction, will I gain more weight in any untreated areas?
If your personal areas of “stubborn fat”- places where you gain weight easily but are slow to lose weight- have been treated with liposuction then the general answer is no. Even with moderate weight gain, any remaining areas left untreated will not gain significantly more weight. Any weight gain you experience will still be proportionally distributed throughout the body and will have a preference for the few remaining fat cells located in those notorious “stubborn areas” like the abdomen and hips. In most cases, patients that feel they have gained more weight than normal in untreated areas are simply noticing the normal changes in these areas more since weight in the traditional “problem areas” treated by liposuction are not as visually dramatic.
Can I do liposuction in the office?
Small, targeted areas may be done with local anesthesia as an in-office procedure. However, treating multiple areas and achieving the excellent results delivered by our three-step method requires a more controlled approach to allow efficiency and patient comfort. Therefore, most female liposuction and female lipocontouring procedures are performed under mild general anesthesia. The procedure is done as an outpatient and you may return home that same day.
How long is recovery from liposuction?
The advanced techniques and equipment used by Dr. Beck are designed to reduce bruising and swelling, plus promote skin tightening for a final result far superior to traditional methods of fat removal. Immediately after the procedure you will be mobile, but moving slower and more limited than normal. It is suggested you have a friend or family member around to help as needed. Most patients are independently mobile and back to basic daily activities in a few days, can return to deskwork in 1 week and return to light duty in about 2 weeks. For optimal results, strenuous activities must be limited for 6 weeks. Once the initial swelling subsides, you can expect immediately visible results, with full benefits seen in 3 to 6 months.
Can other procedures be done at the same time as liposuction?
Liposuction can be performed alone, but is often combined with other female breast and body procedures including breast augmentation, tummy tuck, and BBL.
